Back To The Gold Standard - Dr. Mike Fuljenz believes it needs a little lead.

Dr. Mike Fuljenz NRA ring of freedom

Down along the coast of Texas there's a Beaumont company, Universal Coin & Bullion, that truly understands that all that glitters is not gold. Both CEO Dr. Mike Fuljenz and his staff say they like to keep their shiny stuff tempered with metal more suited for making bullets. Lead, they explain, is a too often discredited element that keeps gold and silver safe-when it's not protecting several centuries' worth of individual freedoms these southeast Texans hold dear.

Fuljenz has had his eye on silver and gold since childhood in Lake Charles, La. It started when his grandfather gave him a silver dollar for making all A’s on his report card. Mike also used his lawn-mowing money to buy coin books, learn about rare currency and begin collecting. Over time his knowledge and expertise grew…

Dr. Mike Fuljenz about buying and selling coins

The recent significant increase in the price of gold may increase the chances of unwary buyers and sellers becoming victims of dishonest dealers, cautioned Dr. Michael Fuljenz, an award-winning precious metals writer and President of Universal Coin & Bullion, Ltd. (www.UniversalCoin.com). "It happens virtually every time there's a run up in gold and silver prices. Scam artists take advantage of investors and consumers who have not done their homework," warned Fuljenz

Dr. Mike Fuljenz Comments for NBC News on Counterfeit Gold Bars Discovered in New York City

Gold expert Dr. Mike Fuljenz, of Universal Coin & Bullion, told NBC News that counterfeiting like this has been going on for a long time. "The people who get hit are not the bigger dealers," Fuljenz said, since they often use machinery to detect counterfeits. However while it's easier to pinpoint counterfeits in thinner materials like coins, Fuljenz said it's more difficult with a big, thick bar.

The issue of counterfeit gold is re-emerging after a reputable merchant in Manhattan discovered he'd bought $100,000 worth of fake gold bars, WNYW reported. When merchant Ibrahim Fadl drilled into several of the gold bars he'd bought from a regular source, he discovered they were actually filled with gray tungsten.

ICTA Thanks Dr. Mike Fuljenz

ICTA Thanks Dr. Mike Fuljenz

As you probably know, ICTA is the national trade association that is the “watch dog” for the coin/precious metals community, most especially on the federal level. We’re a comparatively very small association and can only do so much with our small staff. When being proactive with in-state dealers to try to achieve a state sales tax exemption on coins and precious metals, they usually hire a lobbyist and then work with ICTA for the education part. We then all work together to first educate the lobbyist who then may find an appropriate legislator to sponsor the bill before going to the next step of educationg the rest of the legislators. This slightly an oversimplification, but you get the idea.

KFDM-TV Channel 6 Crime Stoppers Interviews Dr. Mike Fuljenz

Dr. Mike Fuljenz Honored With Press Club Awards

KFDM-TV Channel 6 in my hometown of Beaumont,Texas recently did a Crime Stoppers story about a Texas dealer who reportedly paid only $16,000 for nearly $250,000 of coins sent to him by an 82-year old California woman. The interviewer asked me for consumer protection advice so other people can avoid encountering this kind of problem. My suggestion was simply to remember: “It’s important to do your homework before selling or buying gold and silver coins.”

There are easy-to-do precautions you can and should take before you make a purchase or sell to someone you’re not familiar with. Too often I hear horror stories about people who grossly overpaid for what they purchased, never received the merchandise they ordered, or were grossly underpaid — or never paid — for what they sold. In one case I personally helped the news media investigate and expose a traveling “hotel buyer” who claimed in his big advertisements he would “Pay the Highest Prices” but offered only $60 for a gold coin actually worth $10,000.
