Report from the 15th Anniversary 9-11 Memorial Dinner near Ground Zero
Last Wednesday, September 7, I was one of the invited guests to the 9-11 Memorial & Museum benefit dinner in New York, held at Cidriani Club 55 restaurant at 55 Wall Street near Ground Zero. It was a very moving experience to privately tour the below-ground museum, the above-ground memorials and to hear the testimonials to the heroes of that day.

September is Off to a Good Start – for the Usual Reasons
In addition to the fundamentals from the Fed, the dollar and Wall Street’s fixation on each Fed meeting, gold is off to a good start in September – largely due to the “usual reason” of seasonal buying in India.

Bets Favor Gold
Gold gained $20 on Friday – rising from $1,334 to $1,355 – in the wake of a very low GDP number. The Wall Street Journal had expected 2.6% annualized growth in the second quarter (ending June 30), but the actual number came in much lower, 1.2%. This virtually guarantees that there will be no Federal Reserve interest rate increase in September or early November – right before the elections – giving gold a relative advantage over cash in terms of total return – capital gains plus interest income. Right now, the betting is that there is just a 12% chance of a rate increase in September and 88% chance that rates will not change.
